About Me
Creativity is a characteristic of someone that forms something new and valuable; having or showing an ability to make new things or think new ideas.
Quiddity is the inherent nature or essence of someone or something- a perculiarity.
The Peculiarity of Something New and Different.
It is a goal of mine to explore the Creative Quiddity of art in the many forms that it takes. I like to create intuitively~ what I feel, hear, or sense~ with a multitude of mediums, including recycled materials. I’ll combine materials that don’t typically work together because I have a passion to explore that avenue of art.
Hi, I’m Kaitlynn
I guess you could say I’ve always been an artist, but crippling anxiety and imposter syndrome (among other things) held me back from actually pursuing it further than a hobby.
I had other things to occupy my twenties anyway. Things like having a child (the cutest sassy independent person that I’m proud to call my daughter), going through a marriage that was incredibly unhealthy while also being devoted to a church that was a few pegs away from being considered a cult (how I got there deserves its own section) It wasn’t until the beginning of 2022 that I woke up and realised I wasn’t actually living the life I wanted or deserved.
So I left the church and my marriage and pursued an independent lifestyle. Once I got this whole living-on-my-own thing down, I reevaluated my life and thought, “welp, I’m not getting any younger, guess I better try this whole artist thing out.”
So here I am! Working part time as a bookstore barista (at the best coffee/bookshop EVER) and working on my art career.
I truly just enjoy creating with whatever I can get my hands on. I don’t believe the price of supplies is what makes someone a good or professional artist, but rather what they create with the tools that they have on hand. And I consider ANYTHING a tool for creating art. Be it cardboard, paint skins, canvas, clay etc… I don’t believe there should be a limit to what can be used.
I prefer to work in series when I create, usually coming up with some sort of theme or parameter to the project I’m working on. I apparently think this is fun, like some sort of puzzle or game to play.
For example, I have a series of paintings that go to a certain classical album-one painting per song. They are all oil paintings and are on wood boards as canvas (CANNOT wait to finish this series, cos it’s one of my favourites!). Another series uses just polymer clay with oil paint and are named on feelings that I’m “not feeling” (kinda hard to explain, I guess?)
ANYHOO! I’m so glad you found my little spot on the internet and I hope you stick around, maybe buy yourself a piece of art. That’d be cool.
At some point, I’ll be creating a blog for you all to read (cos who am I if not a millennial with a blog!) So look out for that!
If you got any questions, or ideas that you think I should try out, or if you just want to chat and be friends, check out my contact page and let’s connect!
